After lots of talking and discussing, we've decided to stay at our house for Christmas this year. It wasn't an easy decision, knowing how many friends and family we normally see on our annual trip to OK this time of year. We just feel like its the best decision for us this year. Once we got over the initial shock of how different Christmas would be without our normal traditions, we actually got excited.
First of all, we will be able to see both our immediate families over the break :) Secondly, we are excited to begin our own traditions this year. We wont have many opportunities to have a Christmas all to ourselves, so we will definitely take advantage of this one! We are blessed to have a wonderful cozy new home that we really love and we're already starting on some traditions! This year we've already gone to the restored theatre downtown for a showing of "It's A Wonderful Life" (our FAV Christmas movie). This date alone could've made my Christmas this year. We've also gone shopping for each others' stockings this year, which we've never felt the need to do before. Another favorite? Baking Christmas cookies from scratch and listening to our awesome Christmas mix (toss in a beer for him, wine for me....good times!).
We are planning on also doing a big homemade breakfast the day of, building a fire, and watching movies in our Pjs all day Christmas Day. We know with the AF there isn't a lot we can control, but we can always control our reaction to our circumstances. We choose to be excited for our first holiday "just us". There's just no point in getting down about it. Tis the season to be jolly :) I hope you all have a safe and wonderful holiday as well!
