House Hunters

So I have been working a lot at Victorias Secret lately, but today is my day off and I am spending it house hunting online for our future home in Abilene, TX! Knowing where we are going and that we will be there for awhile really has gotten us both very excited! Hubs and I are finally getting to start our dream careers! :) I cannot wait to pick out a school and get my own classroom!!

Finding a house hasn't been easy, but it has been fun! I love looking at houses and imagining what it will look like with our own personal touches. We have found several worthy candidates for a home and we can't wait to take a trip down there to see them in person!

Financially, its a bit tricky...Here's why:

So we are on a TDY en route. This means we are at a temporary station and technically are still stationed at Corpus Christi NAS. Normally, on a TDY, the service member gets paid per diem (per day) for being gone. They also get paid more for living arrangements. This is on top of normal pay (base housing in corpus, and base pay). When we arrived here, we had the option to go ahead and get the extra cash on a monthly basis or get a lump sum at the end of this TDY. We opted for the latter in order to help along our savings and pay off my new car. Since Josh got a raise in June, we have been perfectly comfortable. Now we are faced with signing a lease in Abilene while still paying rent for our place here in Little Rock. It gets really complicated!

Anyways, we decided we would have to buckle down, if we needed to, in order to get a house we could both be happy in for a few years. No winning candidates yet, but knowing we are financially on the right track really helps us to be excited about the whole process! We keep hearing that our 100lb German Shepherd will shorten our list of available houses in our price range, but haven't been told that directly by a landlord just yet. I just hope that whatever house we choose isnt taken away from us simply because of the size or breed of our dog! She has never damaged anything in a house before and she is always kenneled when we leave to prevent damage resulting from boredom. I've been told this is something that really matters to landlords about dogs!

So that is the reader's digest version of our current house hunt we've got underway. I hope to update you soon hopefully with pictures of our new home!
