Today hubs and I realized that every fall we get a little bummed... when younger friends and siblings go back to college ( Oklahoma State, more specifically). We really miss Stillwater and everything it meant to us back then! It will always be a special place for us. Hell, that's where we met and our life together began.
Don't get me wrong, life now is wonderful and we are really enjoying everything about being a young married couple. But when back to school commercials start to come on and that first home football game begins, we can't help but feel a little nostalgic.
College to me was such a crazy wonderful experience. I have never been so busy, stressed, and happy all at the same time. I might have been born and raised in Sand Springs, OK...but I grew up in Stillwater. It was a place that really changed me and I wouldn't be who I am today had it not been for Oklahoma State and even Zeta (my sorority). It's where I met some of my very best girlfriends. Not to mention I met my husband there. I know he feels the same way about OSU, ROTC, and Arnold Air (basically his fraternity).
I think this has a lot to do with the fact that we have both felt unsettled since we left there. We haven't really met another group of friends like we had there. We have faith that we will once we get to Abilene and meet the people in Josh's squadron and their families. I have a feeling it won't be quite the same though. Not better or worse, just different.
So if you are reading this, and you are in college...enjoy it. Every minute of it. (Especially if you are in Stillwater, OK). If you are an alum like us, then I hope that you all find special bond with more people wherever you are and hopefully get the chance to meet up with old friends every once in awhile. If you are trying to decide whether or not to go to college....GO. It is something you won't regret. Go immediately after high school if you can. My parents always told my friends who thought about not going this: "You will never get another freshman year". I never really understood what they meant until now. Its just a special, wonderful time in your life that you can't do over or get back.
I know people say college is the best four years of your life...and I don't know about that! It was amazing and I had a blast...I'll never forget it. BUT we are having so much fun together now and making plans for the future! Plus, I'd hate to think the best years of my life are over! No way! There are some amazing adventures ahead! But we will never forget those four (4.5 for me lol) amazing years in Stillwater, OK. GOOOOO POKES!
I feel ya! I miss dorm life and all of our friends and smoking hukkah on the lawn and biking across campus. When this fall air rolls in, I'm sad I'm not in my trenchdress with my messanger bag and bike trying my damndest to make it from Seratean Center to FRC in five minutes. I keep thinking, maybe retirement communitees are like being in college again, minus the classes!
