So today was Key Spouse Training day for me! A Key Spouse is someone who is trained to be a conduit of information for the spouses in their squadron. Each of us is assigned anywhere from 9-20 spouses to take care of. We are not counselors, chauffeurs, or babysitters. We call our spouses every once in awhile to check on them and make sure they have everything they need while their spouse is home or away. We have a direct line to our squadron's commander and First Sgt. We get referrals and make phone calls to get whatever our spouses need.
It was a long day of power points and presentations from people around the base and community. Being a Key Spouse is going to be a wonderful thing. I am going to be directly connected to the base and, more importantly, my husband's squadron. The biggest plus of this is I don't have to be tricked by those evil rumors that can start to spread about deployments. If I have a question (or another spouse does), all I have to do is give our First Sgt. Turner a call and ask him directly.
I'm looking forward to getting to know and meeting the spouses of our squadron! I met a lot of ladies from our sister squadron today and everyone is very friendly and outgoing.
Another thing I learned that I am uber excited about? Our base is hosting a GALA in April! A FORMAL Gala! Its to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the C130 at Dyess AFB and its the night before the big air show here in Abilene. I can.not.wait. :)
I feel like that is kinda what I am here. I sometimes feel that I am the only spouse who knows anything in Brett's flight. I can't wait to move on from here though and meet some other spouses! 51 days until we know! 11-05's drop (next Friday) has a lot of C-130s!
ReplyDeleteI was just thinking the other day about becoming a key spouse in Minot. How did you get hooked up with that position?

its just something I heard about when I arrived here. I got a flyer from the base announcing training dates, and I signed up!
