Yesterday morning, after not sleeping well and waking up super early, we got up and went to breakfast before my doctor appointment. It was the day we would find out if we were having a son or a daughter and the whole day seemed totally overwhelming and emotional.
This was my husband's first time to meet my OBGYN and see our child on an ultrasound. We were very excited, and nervous! Nervous because, like I explained earlier, I tend to get that way before seeing the doctor. It had been two months since I had seen our baby and was hoping the baby was ok!
So we wait for what feels like forever to be called back after signing in, sweaty palms and all. Finally we get called in, I pee in a cup, get weighed (127, 8lbs gained so far! yay!), and get cozy for my ultrasound.
My OBGYN is a great guy. He is also very quiet and soft spoken, he doesn't get excited very easily. Unlike the previous ultrasounds, we were able to see our baby immediately! Baby was SO much bigger than last time! Last time, baby was able to move and bounce around with all this extra space. This time, all the baby could do was wiggle around a bit.
Doctor was narrating for us as we saw different parts of the baby's body. We saw the hearbeat, the stomach, bladder, spine and some little ribs. Then he pointed out the legs which were spread wide open for us to see what was between them!
"This is a pretty good indication that it's a little girl in there!"
A GIRL!
We are having a daughter. (cue tears for husband and I)
We really had been expecting a boy! So we were a little shell-shocked! But couldn't be more thrilled to welcome the newest addition to our little family.
So then it was time to announce our news to our families and the world!
Finding a creative way to reveal our baby's gender from so far away wasn't easy. But it was totally worth the effort! My parents live close to a big city so, for them, it was easy. We called a bakery and had cupcakes with the appropriate gender-colored icing inside and had them ready for my parents to pick up that afternoon.
My in-laws were a bit trickier! They don't live as close to a big city, and all the legitimate bakeries in their area were closed on Mondays (reveal day). So we opted for a flower reveal instead! I really hope that we were able to make this day as special for them as it was for us.
Everyone is so thrilled to welcome our little girl into the world in January. We cannot wait to meet her and see her beautiful face. What a journey we are about to embark upon!
It was a great day! Fun!
ReplyDeleteWe were expecting a boy as well! Shocked when we found out it was a girl. She is the sweetest, best thing that has ever happened! There will be nothing like watching josh love on his little baby girl. They are my favorite moments. Plus, let's be real... Little girl clothes are really really cute!
ReplyDeleteSUPER EXCITED for you! Your gender reveal ideas are cute-- especially creative since ya'll live far away now :( MISS you!
ReplyDeleteYay! A girl! Congrats! I felt the same way at every ultrasound, very nervous but excited, that feeling may never go away but you have a healthy baby girl in there - AWESOME!!! :)
