So I previously blogged about having issues with IBS since Elise came along. I wrote about eliminating several foods/beverages from my diet to help me feel better. These things helped a little. But not enough for me to be satisfied. I'm not okay with needing to take medication everyday. Especially while I'm still breast feeding.
Thanks to my blogging buddy, Allison. I've been curious and learning more about celiac and eating gluten free. Apparently Celiacs and IBS are closely related symptom wise, and the two are often misdiagnosed.
I'm not sure that's what's going on. I'd have to have a blood test to know. Or I could try gluten free for awhile and see if it makes me feel better. So that's what I intend to do. We have a couple more trips to make so before I make the switch I hope to journal about my food and how it makes me feel. Then once we are home and I have gotten groceries and recipes ready, I'll start journaling about those meals and compare the two.
I refuse to live a subpar life when I don't have to. If changing my diet will improve the quality of my daily life then that's what I intend to do.
Another good news tidbit? I got my husband to stop drinking diet soda!! After telling him I learned aspartame can deteriorate your vision over time he dropped it like a hot potato. We have both switched to unsweet tea for caffeine since we don't like coffee.
We are pretty excited to make more healthy changes in our life. It's important to us both that we set a good example for Elise about how to treat our bodies.
So here's hoping that I start feeling better soon!
This is awesome! It's crazy how taking a few foods out of our diet can completely change the way we feel everyday. Bravo for getting josh to quit diet soda! I tell my friends I'd rather them just drink or eat "regular" than go with the "diet" version!
