The Rock

Sooo....I am now unemployed and living in Little Rock with half of my stuff! Never a dull moment in the life of the AF spouse! Haha!

We had one hell of a time getting here too. Since technically this is a TDY (temporary duty) for my husband and not a PCS (permanent change of station), I am not supposed to be here with him. I am supposed to still be in Corpus receiving BAH for our home there. But no one chooses to be separated from their spouse for 6 mos if they can help it so I came along. BUT since it IS a TDY for my husband, the AF only paid for us to bring 600lbs of our stuff while the rest goes into storage until we move in at Abilene, TX.

Picking out stuff I would need for the next 6 mos wasn't very easy and everyday I find something else I forgot to pack. (I made like 6 trips to Walmart the first week we were here, it was insane.)

We had to rent our own Uhaul, borrow a truck from my wonderful in-laws, and leave a majority of our furniture, kitchen items, and clothes behind. (Don't ask me where our things are right now, because frankly, I have no idea). This definitely hasn't been easy on either of us! I miss our couch, my kitchen stuff, our dressers and my nice new coffee table! :( My mantra has been "only 6 mos, only 6 mos"!!! Again my wonderful in-laws came to the rescue and let us use their new futon for the next 6 mos which has saved us from having to use folding chairs in the living room!

So I am currently trying to make this place look decent while trying to find a teaching job for myself in Abilene for the fall and a wonderful house for us to live in once we arrive. Up until this point, we haven't been picky about where we live or what we live in because we knew it was only temporary. Now that we are actually being stationed somewhere, we are being picky. It is really difficult to house shop for a rental from a distance though! We will need to get newspapers from the area because the online pickings are slim.

Arkansas so far is beautiful. Everything is so green and I have never seen so many tall trees! We are a weekend trip away from Memphis, St. Louis, and HOME! (that's the best part) Husband is back to hitting the training grindstone while I play housewife for another term. Its a nice break after working this past semester, and I know I will be fresh and ready to hit the ground running should I score a teaching position in August. Here's hoping! :)
