End of an Era

Even though I'm a week early on this, I had to mark this milestone.

The final Harry Potter movie is coming out tomorrow (for me anyway).

If you aren't an HP fan (especially if you haven't read the books), you won't understand this blog at all.

This book series has had a profound impact on my life. Mostly because it reminded me why I love reading and literature. It has everything you could ask for in a book. I read the first Harry Potter book for the first time ten years ago. About the time when I started to think I was too old for books like that and that reading just wasn't cool enough for me. After reading the first book, I was hooked. I very impatiently awaited the arrival of every book after that, reading it in a day or two, then had to wait another couple of years to continue Harry's exciting adventure. I have never been so enthralled with a story like this and I worry that I never will again.

That's what's so bittersweet about tomorrow. As excited as I am to see the final installation of my favorite book series come to life, I can't help but be a little sad and wistful. Knowing this is my last midnight showing, last time to get just completely geeked about something, and talk about it for days. Thankfully, I have an awesome husband who shares my HP enthusiasm and will engage in post HP movie chats. :)

I'm grateful to have the books forever. I sincerely cannot wait to have the pleasure of introducing our children to the magical world of Harry Potter and watching their imaginations grow within literature. I think I will be forever in debt to J.K. Rowling for rekindling my love affair with books and making them relevant to my adult life.

So here's to one more Harry Potter movie.....CAN.NOT.WAIT. :)
