Naivety...To Be or Not To Be?

Being naive isn't a trait that most people admire in others. You want to be informed and have realistic expectations about the different aspects in your life. Rarely does naivety help you get along in life.

However, I'm finding it to be very helpful for military spouses. Hear me out....

So we all know deep in the back of our minds that our spouses aren't always in a safe place. They can be put in dangerous situations daily, with people that want to hurt or even kill them. This concept is not lost on military spouses.

But think about it, if we couldn't convince ourselves that they will be okay....why even get out of bed in the morning? Thinking about the possibilities that can happen in a deployment can be debilitating. It has a way of consuming every thought you have on a daily basis. A person could literally go crazy thinking about it all the time. You don't have to lie to yourself or make them promise you they will come home safely. You honestly just kind of have to ignore those bad thoughts. You have to find a way to forget about them to get through the day and still live life.

So if you want to say that's naive, that's fine. I tend to agree. But it has become a survival skill for many spouses in the military who have to continue life normally while their spouse may be risking theirs. Maybe naivety isn't the worst thing in the world after all.
