I Believe

Even though I was SORT of coerced to do this blog by my best friend...I still think it's a pretty good idea.

Lately there's been a lot on the news about the elections coming up and about what people believe in. Barack Obama made it clear this week what he personally believes in and I couldn't be more proud that I voted for him and intend to again in November. That being said, this isn't really meant to be a political nor religious post. My beliefs have drastically changed in the last 10 years and I thought it would be interesting to document my beliefs now and check back in another ten years and see the similarities/differences....so here goes nothing....

I believe that people should have the right to legally marry whomever they love and deem worthy of their love.

I believe in the separation of church and state.

I am pro-choice. I am not, however, pro-abortion.

I believe in being equal partners in marriage....roles are ever changing but the same effort is always applied.

I believe in counseling and therapy. There's nothing wrong with admitting you need help with something or getting a complete unbiased stranger to bounce your confusing thoughts off of.

I believe in public education. On that note, I also believe that if you want to send your children to a private school or homeschool them, you should have that right to choose. But many people are starting to give up on public schools and that's just not fair to those children who cant choose and sometimes school is their only escape from the nightmare they experience at home.

I believe in second chances. Sometimes people totally don't deserve it. I usually give it to them anyway.

I believe in manners. I don't care how old fashioned it sounds. Manners to me are extremely important. Saying please and thank you, men practicing chivalry, etc.

I believe in honesty. It's the best policy. I hate passive aggressiveness. If you have a problem with me, it's not going to get fixed by being passive aggressive and hoping I'll get the message. Be an adult and speak to me like one. Usually if you are honest and polite, you'll get a much better response.

I believe differences among cultures and religions should be celebrated, not fought over. I don't understand why the world fights with itself to force everyone to believe in the same thing....our experiences are all so different. Why can't we take the opportunity to learn something from each other rather than be mad that we don't all already know the same things?

This blog isn't meant to force my beliefs onto anyone....I'm willing to answer questions. I will not, however, respond to negative or judgemental comments. I'm simply stating my opinions and you are free to do the same.

  1. We agree on most things! I can tell you that I currently believe in second chances (and third, and fourth) but as I get older I see that one evolving. I definitely believe in counseling and therapy. My whole family is getting signed up here in a few weeks, lol.

  2. I like that you did this :) most people don't really even know what they believe in once out on their own without someone raising them to think a certain way. Love you and miss you friend ;)
