Weeks 16 & 17

This has been quite the week for the McVay house. Not really in a great way.

It's been a bittersweet week of loss and celebration.

Starting off with my best friend's son's passing last Sunday morning. I immediately went to Tulsa to be with her and help her put together his memorial party. Which was the celebration I was referring to and it was just beautiful. It was exactly how a memorial party should be. We all had our time to be sad and remember Rowan with his slideshow and listen to Elle and Matt's speeches to hear their gratitude and love for their son. Then the rest of the evening was spent drinking (Welch's for me!), laughing and meeting new friends. I don't think there's any way it could've been better. Though the week began with tears and sadness, it ended with laughter and good friends. I can't believe how lucky I am to have a friend like the one I have in Elle. Life would suck a lot more without her in it.



The party was over Friday night, which is when we got word that there was a wildfire that had started in my husband's hometown. Our friends were literally fighting the fire off their yards. The next two days were spent at Red Cross trying to do what we could to help out. Waiting to hear news of our friends' safety and whether their homes were ok made for a very long two days.

So needless to say, in all the busyness and confusion, we weren't able to take pictures to post for the blog this time.

Two days from today marks the beginning of my 18th week of pregnancy! I can't believe we are almost halfway done. Two weeks from today is my 20 week ultrasound and the day we find out the gender of our first child.

This week is also the week that our baby can hear noises from outside the womb. So of course, we've started reading and singing to our little one. Even Macy gets a word in now and again to get the baby familiar with our voices.

Time seems to be picking up a bit lately. We know that the time for purchasing baby furniture and registering is approaching quickly...and before we know it, we will be able to see and hold our baby! January really can't get here fast enough!
