21 Weeks

Well my bump is finally and definitely here to stay! I've gained 11lbs so far and I feel great! I can tell that the uncomfortable part is just around the corner though. Rolling over in bed is much harder than it used to be, as is getting up from the floor or our mattress (that currently just sits on the floor, no bed frame).

Our baby girl is kicking and moving around like a gymnast! Josh has been getting plenty of feel time in as well, which just melts my heart. We took a nice long walk in the newly cool fall weather today down by the river with Macy. There were a lot of families out taking advantage of the weather as well. It was great to see Macy interacting with them.

If I haven't mentioned this before, we have a huge dog. Even for a German Shepherd, she is on the bigger side! She weighs well over 100lbs and is very long. She can be very intimidating to those who don't know what a softy she really is. Children, however, don't seem to be afraid of her at all. That used to make us very nervous! I'm sure it makes their parents nervous! But turns out children are Macy's favorite group of people (THANK GOD!). There were a couple of little kids (like 3 or 4) who ran right up to her to pet her today. Macy immediately lowered herself, her ears, and wagged her tail like crazy. When the kid got close enough, she tried to lick him to death.

I can't explain what a huge relief it is to know that our big dog has had no aggression issues towards people and especially children. Though we are still collecting many articles and tips on how to properly prepare our pooch for our daughters arrival, seeing sights like we did today go a long way in easing our nervousness about it! We know many people who've had to get rid of their dogs when they had children because of safety issues and even thinking about taking out the creature that made our marriage into a family broke my heart. So preparing Macy for this big transition has been a huge item on our priority list. I'd like to think that we always had this transition in mind, even as we were looking for a dog, and that we made the right choice in getting her to begin with.

We are under no impression that this transition will be as smooth and easy as we want it to be, but we are willing to do whatever we can to pull together as a family as we go from three to four!
